Park Walk in Shaftesbury is not so iconic – no Hovis bread ads here – but is appreciated by the locals probably more than Gold Hill. For a start it not so steep to climb, or descend, and it has the most marvellous views to the south but also to the east and west. Park Walk was originally part of Shaftesbury Abbey – done away with by Henry VIII – but visitors are still able to visit the ruins of the central building when it is open. The walk, though remains free to walk along at any time of the year.
